MarEA’s coverage encompasses MENA’s coastal and maritime regions, from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and the Gulf. The challenges imposed by the complex dynamics of the seas and coastal zones, on a local, regional and global scale, necessitate an adaptive methodology. Our work embraces various approaches tailored to the diversity in coastal and maritime environments across MENA. From monitoring coastal change, erosion and accretion rates, to tracking urban development, MarEA evaluates cultural heritage at risk from natural and anthropogenic threats. Our work extends to documenting geoarchaeological evidence which enables an understanding of past landscapes and environments providing insight into the nature of archaeological potential and preservation.
